On behalf of the HCISD Guidance and Counseling Department, we would like to invite parents and guardians to our presentation focusing on Student Wellness.

Ms. Crystal Martinez, MS, LPC, NCC, will provide information on Identifying "Iceberg" Students. The presentation will be held in person at the Administration Building Board Room December 8, 2022, at 6:30 p.m.. We encourage all staff, parents, and guardians to attend.

Title of Session: Identifying Your “Iceberg” Student: Uncovering the Trauma

Trauma history is often hidden; however, the BIG behaviors can be seen by all. Trauma is tricky but managing it doesn’t have to be. We will learn how to identify trauma responses and behavior to navigate through an iceberg meltdown. Trust Based Relational Intervention will be discussed as well as trauma responses and PTSD among school age children.

Presenter,: Ms. Crystal Martinez, MS, LPC, NCC

Crystal Martinez is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor and has been working with children and adolescents for over 7 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Master of Science degree in Counseling, both from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi where she specialized in marriage, couples and family therapy. She currently owns and works at Clear Minds Counseling RGV, PLLC.

In Crystal’s work within the child-adolescent population, providing specialized trauma informed services to survivors of traumatic experiences has been most rewarding. This work includes aiding children and their families through their healing and legal process due to domestic violence, sexual assault or witness to crime and working towards healing and long-lasting change. Most recently she devotes part of her work to the Bair Foundation working with therapeutic placement foster children throughout the Rio Grande Valley and aids them towards healing past their trauma and creating healthy relationships with trusted caregivers.

Crystal is dedicated to her community and is involved in her church. She is an active member in Junior League of Harlingen where she currently serves as Vice President of Fund Development.
